Choose five RSS feeds for YOUR professional purposes. In your blog, briefly explain why you chose each one and how it will benefit you in your profession. Note: Emphasis on briefly. You do not need to include references for this post. img src="http://nameorg.org/2009/11/join-no-name-calling-week-jan-25-29-2010/"
http://nameorg.org/ The National Association for Multicultural Education is a volunteer driven organization that represents my classroom. Being the ESL teacher I have at least 5 different languages and cultures every year. I must be respectful to their view and teach my students tolerance for one another. So through the feeds, I hope to learn lessons and share ideas on how to help my students.
http://k6educators.about.com/ About.com reaches all education grade levels but I choose the feed on elementary education. I feel the plethora of information regarding back to school, lesson plans and the teaching 101 are very useful. Teaching 101 brings back the joy to teaching and has blogs and articles regarding the highlights of my profession. There are too many teachers burning out and unhappy where they are as a career. I don’t want to be one of the teachers that fly the coop. There have been 5 at my school in the last 2 years.
feed://www.edutopia.org/edutopia_rss.xml The feed to Edutopia is one of my favorites and I have been receiving it since I started my literature research. There are articles for teachers on instruction, politics and several areas that concern me as a teacher. I look forward to articles regarding the technology integration and the bonus of hearing about green schools.
http://www.hepg.org/main/Home Teaching Immigrant and Second Language Children This feed is mostly blogs and articles from the Harvard Education Publishing Group. I narrowed the feed to teaching immigrant and second language learners due to my current classroom. I have been teaching sheltered for 3 years and since I hold that certification I don’t see myself going back into regular education. I find the information mostly political and from around the country. I like to hear what works in some states and did not in others. The Board of Education for Florida makes decisions for us and eventually I think the teachers should be part of it.
UsingEnglish.com has a substantial amount of tools and resources for students and teachers to use during the learning process. As an ESL teacher I am constantly reteaching and reevaluating the lessons. Half the class may understand and half may not understand a topic. I have to keep the scope and sequence moving but I cannot leave students behind so I can search the ESL site looking for ways to reapply the concepts.
